Are Sustainable Design Practices Gaining Ground?

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This

Sustainable design practices haven’t really been around that long, but today a lot of people are looking at incorporating green elements into their homes and even into large commercial buildings. The more it happens the better since the greener we make our buildings, the greener the whole world becomes. But is it really gaining any ground? Is sustainable design too expensive to be practical for the masses?

Green Modular Homes Help The Planet

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponDigg This

As people become more concerned about the environment and trying to do more in order to protect it one aspect they look at are our houses and the energy that is lost through them every single year. For some people this involves them actually moving and one thing that may interest them is the emergence of green modular homes.

These have been designed by various companies around the world and they are environmentally friendly and compact houses which utilize various materials in order to try and deal with the carbon footprint. In previous years they were often known as prefabs but these new models take this into the modern age.

Due to the size of green modular homes, they do cost less to heat and power and they deal with their insulation so less energy then escapes through the walls. This of course means you not only save money but also help to save the planet which is always going to be a good thing.

The insulation looks at not only the walls but also the floors and indeed the ceiling as often people just get the walls dealt with not realising how much is lost through the other two. The good thing is that this is done when they are built so there is then no need for you to get someone else in to do it therefore saving you some money yet again.

Green modular homes also often come with special high grade windows that are designed to keep the heat in during the cold winter months and then the heat out when it is warmer in the summer. They are also entirely sealed around the edges as it is surprising how much energy can be lost through things such as the sealant around a window if it has not been done correctly.

This leaking part is important because there are actually several parts of a house that can allow heat and energy to escape which is they tend to make sure that every possible escape route is built to a higher standard. This means there is less dust or pollen blown in and of course heat does not escape through any potential drafts.

The lights and light fittings are normally equipped to use low energy bulbs which still give you more than enough light but use a fraction of the power. This is often extended to appliances and other household items so just by doing this you help the planet as well as save yourself more money.

You can therefore see that green modular homes really can help the environment as well as saving you some money though reducing the cost of all the energy you use in your home. They focus on the environment even from the building site to the end product so you can buy one knowing that you are doing your bit to save the planet.
