With natural resources on the planet depleting at a fast rate, “going-green” has become a popular phenomenon amongst environment lovers and eco-friendly wedding invitations are becoming more sought after. Recycling plastic bottles, using cloth bags for grocery instead of disposable plastic bags and utilizing as less electricity as possible are only a few of the ways activists try to minimize waste.

However, when it comes down to special occasions even the most ardent of environment lovers are left in frenzy as the choices narrow down. After all – how can one even dream of using recycled material for their very own wedding day?

Luckily today, you don’t have to sacrifice quality to get eco-friendly wedding invitations and there are many kinds the fit the bill nicely.

The first are those made with recycled paper. These cards are not only cost-effective, but actually save a lot of trees that would have met an unpleasant fate had you chosen to print your invites on brand new pieces of paper! Used paper is generally made into pulp and “de-inked” so that it can be formed into a clean piece of paper again! This is the very same paper that is used in one of the kinds of eco-friendly invitations.
Another kind of green invitation, are those that are sent electronically. With the internet hosting so many millions of websites and some great designs for e-cards it has become incredibly easy to simply log on and click on the one you love! Most people nowadays host their own email addresses and in fact prefer being messaged electronically as opposed through snail mail.

A third kind of eco-friendly wedding invitations would be one created from flower-seed paper. After the invitation has been received this parchment can be placed into the ground in order to give birth to a full bloom of flowers! Hence, this kind of invitation does not deplete the environmental resources and in fact enhances them!

Yet another category of eco-friendly invitation would be those made out of tree-less paper. This kind of paper is one which has not sacrificed any tree in the process and is readily available on stores online. It is just as user friendly as regular paper and is not a compromise in any way!

These days it’s all about going green so it shouldn’t surprise you that eco-friendly engagement rings are becoming more and more popular. Now, at first glance you might be wondering how the heck a ring can be eco-friendly, I mean it’s just a piece of metal with a rock in it, right?

Turns out, there are a couple of things you might want to consider if you are an environmentally conscious bride looking for eco-friendly diamond rings.

Previously Owned Engagement Rings

Recycling is a big part of going green and jewelry is no exception. In fact, as eco-friendly engagement rings go, this is the #1 choice of many brides because a previously owned ring is also very cost effective. If you forgo buying new and get “used” you will pay a fraction of the price for the same quality and size diamond.

These days, you can find new (and barely used) rings being sold by people whose engagements didn’t work out but another popular thing to do is to buy an antique ring that will not only be beautiful but also a bit unusual and interesting. Some of the older rings had gorgeous designs that you just can’t find today.

Of course, you will need to know a bit about diamonds if you go this route so that you can have a feel for the quality of the diamond, and, thus the price you should be paying.

Recycled Gold

Another aspect of eco-friendly engagement rings is the gold and there are some companies out there that use recycled gold which allows you to have a brand new ring that was never worn by anyone else but in an eco-friendly way. A lot of people don’t realize that gold mining is actually dirty business and the gold to make 1 ring results in a lot of waste that hurts our ecosystems so using recycled gold is smart for the environment.

Conflict Free Diamonds

Sadly, diamond mining can be a cut throat business and some mines use unethical and environmentally irresponsible practices. When it comes to eco-friendly diamond rings, using diamonds from mines that are conflict free (i.e the money is not used to fund civil wars in South Africa) and use practices that help protect the environment is a great option. There are diamond mines in Canada and Namibia that certify the diamonds are conflict free and that use environmentally responsible methods. The best part is that these diamonds are just as beautiful as any other that you might find in any engagement ring.

Non Traditional Materials

Who says eco-friendly engagement rings have to be made from diamonds and gold? If you are really into going green than you might prefer a ring made of something more sustainable like wood. Laugh if you will, but these wooden bands with a diamond set in the middle or just plain with two types of wood are actually quite beautiful and comfortable to wear. If you want a real conversation piece then this could be the way to go!
